December Progressive Series: Frankie’s Favorite Moves

15665645_10154214008142005_364124240581305785_nTaught by Geoffrey
Happy New year! Geoffrey will be starting off our year of dancing by teaching an entire series on the moves Frankie Manning loved. This will be an all levels class, so come dance with us! This will be a super fun class and is open to all levels of dancers.  Keep up with the event details on the event page.

In case you don’t know, Frankie, the Ambassador of Swing, was a second generation Lindy Hopper, choreographed one of the most famous Lindy Hop performances and one of the most famous solo jazz routines ever, invented the first air step, and spread the joy and knowledge of swing dancing to the new generation of dancers during the swing revival. He kept dancing almost all the way to his death, just a few months shy of his 95th birthday. The dance community would not have been the same without him.  Read more about Frankie and watch these clips of him dancing and telling stories, both when he was young in Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers and when he continued to dance well into his 90’s.

Classes of the series meet every Wednesday evening, downstairs at the Laurel Theater, from 7-8:15. Classes are $5 a night, which includes admission to the dance. Cardholders and local students may purchase 4 weeks at once for $15 (1 week free).
