This introductory lesson is aimed towards new dancers who want to get comfortable with the basics of swing dancing and out on the floor social dancing.  Class meets on the main floor of the Laurel and is included with dance admission.  No partner or any dance experience required.  Classes rotate between two weeks each of 6 count and 8 count footwork patterns (the most typically used patterns on the social floor).

Intermediate Level Drop In:  7:00 – 7:30 pm
These classes are geared towards dancers who have some are now comfortable with the swing dance basics but enjoy the format of a drop in class or are not comfortable committing to a month long progressive series. Class meets on the main floor of the Laurel and is included with dance admission.  Dancers are asked to attend at least one or two classes each of the beginner 6 count and 8 count lessons before joining this level drop in, but may observe these classes at any time.  Monthly Schedule:  1st & 2nd Wed – Lindy Hop, 3rd Wed – Charleston, 4th & 5th Wed – Office Hours.  No admittance to this class after 7:05.

Intermediate/Advanced Series:  7:00 – 8:15 pm
This class is for dancers who are comfortable with the basics and looking to improving their dancing by focusing on one topic (or multiple closely related topics) for a month-long series.  Often these classes will have progressive content.  Any prerequisites for these series will be announced with the class description on the front page of the website and at dance.  Occasionally series will be beginner friendly.  Classes meet on the bottom floor of the Laurel and is $5 for both general admission and KSDA benefit cardholders, and includes the price of the dance.  Cardholders and students may purchase an entire series at the beginner of the month and receive one week free.  Series topics will change monthly and be posted on the main page of the website.  Admittance to this class after 7:20 will be at the discretion of the instructors.

Monthly Workshops
Approximately once a month the KSDA hosts a Saturday workshop on a focused swing topic or swing sub genre dance (ex:  Balboa, swing out variations, etc.).  These classes typically meet from 5:15 – 7 pm and are followed by a dance with a live band from 8 – 11 pm.

If you have any feedback (criticism, comments, something you loved something you hated) about a class, please let us know!

Private Lessons
Many of our instructors also offer private dance lessons.  If you want to put more into your dance than just our weekly group lessons, you may want to get a private lesson with one of our KSDA instructors.  If you’ve never taken a private before, they usually last an hour and are between one instructor and one student.  They also can sometimes include a pair of instructors, a pair of students, or both.  Prices listed are per hour and may vary if it is a couple taking the lessons instead of an individual.  To schedule a private lesson, approach the teacher at a Wednesday dance, ask the door worker, or send an email to [SwingDanceKnoxville at gmail dot com].  If you don’t know who would be best to take a private from, pick the dancer you want to dance like or talk to any of our teachers about what you’d like to work on and they’ll point you in the right direction.
